Most people want Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra to reshuffle her Cabinet as soon as possible, particularly the Commerce Ministry, according to the findings of recent NIDA Poll.
The opinion survey centre of National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA) gauged the opinions of 1,310 people, of different educational and professional backgrounds between April 5th and 9th, about whether it is time for a Cabinet reshuffle.
48.24% of the respondents say it is time for a shakeup. 16.18% say it is not yet necessary. 15.50% say the prime minister should wait for another three months, while 10.07% say a reshuffle should take place six months from now.
Asked which ministries which are in urgent need changes at the top, 57.02% of the respondents said the Commerce Ministry, followed by the Ministry of Agriculture (48.55%), Finance Ministry (46.49%), Prime Minister’s Office (44.43%), Labour Ministry (43.89%), Interior Ministry (43.82%), Defence Ministry (42.52%), Transport Ministry (41.53%), Education Ministry (41.22%) and the Justice Ministry (40.07%).
The current Cabinet was officially appointed on September 3rd, 2024.
After more than seven months in the office, the government has, however, come under heavy fire from the opposition and critics for failing to fulfill its campaign promises and policies, among them the 400-baht minimum wage, the 25,000-baht starting salary for university graduates and a reduction of electricity charges.
The prices of main agricultural products, such as rice, maize, rubber, tapioca and sugarcane have dropped substantially, though, compared to last year.
