The Finance Ministry will consider giving a 10,000 baht cash benefit to Thai people who are over 60 but do not hold state welfare cards, as suggested by former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra during his election campaigning in Udon Thani province yesterday.
Finance Minister Pichai Chunhavajira said today that he will raise the suggestion at a meeting of the Economic Stimulating Committee, chaired by Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra.
He also said that, since the number of people who would qualify is not large, this state benefit would not be much of a financial burden, adding that it would not be part of the current and broader “digital wallet” scheme.
