Most Thai people are dissatisfied with the performance of the Pheu Thai-led government and Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra during their first six months in office and doubt they will be able to address the country’s pressing problems, according to an opinion survey conducted by the National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA).
The poll was conducted from February 24th to 26th on 1,310 people and shows that 20% of the respondents are totally dissatisfied with the performance of the government, 34.58% are quite dissatisfied, while 12.82% said they are very satisfied.
Regarding the performance of the prime minister, 22.28% said they are very dissatisfied, 32.60% are quite dissatisfied, 31.76% said they are quite satisfied and 13.36% said they are very satisfied.
Regarding public confidence in the government’s ability to address the country’s problems, the poll shows 36.41% of the respondents are not very confident, while 26.26% said they have no confidence in the government at all. 12.29% said, however, that they are very confident in the government, while 25.04% said they somewhat confident.
The ministries in which the public have the most confidence are Public Health, at 49.47%, Education, at 47.33%, Tourism and Sports at 47.18%, Social Development and Human Security at 45.50% and Energy, at 44.96%.
The ministries which the public think have under-performed the most are Commerce, 62.44%, Labour, 61.22%, Interior, 60.31%, Justice, 59.92% and Defence, 58.17%.
