Pheu Thai secretary general Sorawong Thienthong is confident that government coalition parties will support the controversial draft entertainment complex bill in its first reading in parliament this Wednesday.
“As discussed to date we, as the coalition parties of this government, agree that we have to go together. Each party has its position but, as members of the same government, they should support each other," Sorawong said.
"Those who oppose the bill should stop calling it the 'casino bill', as it confuses the public,” he claimed.
Yesterday, on behalf of the prime minister and the Pheu Thai party, Sorawong attended the Bhumjaithai party’s the 17th anniversary celebration, held at the party’s headquarters.
During an interview, Bhumjaithai’s leader Anutin Charnvirakul approached the group and lifted his hand, forming a half-heart shape. Sorawong formed the same shape and connected with Anutin, forming a full heart, apparently to show unity.
The gesture is popular in social media networking to show a close connection.
An anti-casino group will gather at Chulalongkorn University, on Phaya Thai Road tomorrow, to express their opposition to the bill.
