Political Activist and whistle blower Srisuwan Janya submitted a letter to the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) today, demanding the release, under the provisions of the Official Information Act, of its findings in former transport minister Saksayam Chidchob’s assets concealment case.
Srisuwan’s move follows the conviction yesterday by the Criminal Court’s Corruption and Misconduct Cases Division of two former NACC commissioners for malfeasance in office, for their refusal to disclose the findings, concerning the luxury wristwatches seen being worn by former deputy prime minister Prawit Wongsuwan, as demanded by political activist Veera Somkwamkid.
Srisuwan said that he would like the NACC to release to him the findings in Saksayam’s case, so he could use the information for further investigation.
On January 19, 2024, Srisuwan petitioned the NACC, demanding a probe into Saksayam’s alleged concealing of facts about his shareholding in the Buri Charoen construction limited partnership.
On March 17, 2024, the Constitutional Court ruled Saksayam guilty of ethical misconduct over his share-holding in the private firm, resulting in his removal from his political post.
On April 23 this year, however, the NACC cleared Saksayam of any wrongdoing regarding his assets declaration. The ruling has drawn widespread criticism, questioning the integrity of the anti-graft watchdog.
Srisuwan said he has the right under the Constitution and the provisions of the Official Information Act to demand the release of the findings in Saksayam’s case from the NACC. Failing that he said that he would take the case to the Official Information Committee and the Administrative Court.
