Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin appears to be confident that he will survive the Constitutional Court verdict on Wednesday, over his controversial appointment of Phichit Chuenban as PM Office minister, and has a busy schedule lined up.
A well-informed source said that the prime minister is likely to be spared the axe by the Constitutional Court by 7:2 votes.
A group of caretaker senators has asked the court to remove the prime minister from office, under §170 (4) and (5) of the charter, which deals with ethics of cabinet ministers.
On August 15th and 16th, the prime minister will attend the Mekong Lancang cooperation meeting in Chiang Mai, followed by visits to Pathum Thani, Nakhon Nayok and Saraburi provinces on August 17th, to follow up on tourism promotion activities. On August 18th, he will visit Chainat, Sing Buri and Ang Thong, to follow up on water management issues.
On August 20th, the prime minister will chair a mobile cabinet meeting in Ayutthaya and, the following day, he will fly too Mae Sot district of Tak province to hold talks with local officials and security agencies on call centre scams, drug trafficking and security issues.
On August 22nd, he will visit Chiang Rai province, also for meetings related to call centre scams, drug trafficking and cross-border trade, before proceeding to Chiang Mai the next day to follow up on PM2.5 problems and tourism promotion ahead of the high tourism season at the end of the year.
