The Cabinet approved a 4 billion baht budget today for the Ministry of Tourism and Sports to host the MotoGP World Championships for five years from 2027.
Aiyarin Phanrith, deputy spokesman for the PM’s Office, said that the MotoGP is one of the world’s most popular motor sports, which attracts an estimated 800 million spectators in 207 countries.
Thailand has been playing host to the MotoGP from 2018 to 2025 and the events have generated about 25 billion baht in revenues for Thailand through tourism and tourism-related businesses, she said, adding that, for the past five years, Thailand has demonstrated that it has the capabilities to organise world-class sports competitions.
It is reported that the Sports Authority of Thailand has recently secured a 5-year extension of the contract with Dorna Sports to host MotoGP World Championship from 2027 to 2031.
The motorcycle races have been held at the Chang International Circuit in Buri Ram since 2018.
