Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra said yesterday that every government has to prioritise protecting its citizens, and as Thailand’s leader, she will also give priority to the Thai people.
Protesters in some Myanmar border towns staged demonstrations against Thailand’s decision to cut power and fuel supplies in an effort to curb the increasing presence of scam call centres there.
They also called for boycotting on products from Thailand.
“I am aware of the protests on the Myanmar side, but we have to take care of our nationals first. As the prime minister of Thailand, I have to give priority to our people. I am sure the (Myanmar) government would do the same,” she said upon arrival in Bangkok after concluding an official visit to Beijing.
In Beijing, a key agenda item was the suppression of scammers, whose activities have had global impacts and caused significant financial damage.
Paetongtarn said she will make an official visit to Cambodia soon, where the issue will also be discussed among leaders.
