Polish murder suspect arrested near Cambodian border

A Polish man, who is suspected of killing his Ukrainian girlfriend at a condominium in Bangkok and who was apparently planning to flee into Cambodia, was taken into custody on Monday evening by Thai paramilitaries at Rong Klua market in Aranyaprathet district, near the Cambodian border.

Pol Cpt Thavorn Boonpeng, commander of the 1302 ranger force, told the local media that his men were looking for two pet dogs, which had ventured out of their camp. They found one of them walking near a Caucasian sitting on a stone table.

He said his men thought the foreigner looked like the individual in a picture issued by immigration officials.

The rangers then escorted the foreigner to their camp for questioning, but he declined to speak.  They then searched his luggage and found the passport of a Ukrainian woman.

The suspect was escorted back to Bangkok last night by Wat Phraya Krai police.

The Ukrainian woman was found dead in her condo in the Bang Kho Laem district yesterday (Monday), by the manager of the condominium and a security guard, after they were alerted by a taxi driver who found the Polish man acting very suspiciously when he hailed a taxi in front of the building.

Police said that there were knife wounds on the victim’s body and one of her wrists was cut. A saw was also found in the room. The victim is believed to have died about 24 hours before her body was discovered.
