Police officer arrested for allegedly killing businessman on Bangkok toll way

A police officer was arrested today, at a rented apartment in Nakhon Pathom province, after he allegedly shot and killed a businessman on the Chalong Rat expressway in Bangkok’s Wang Thong Lang district on Friday night.

The suspect has been identified as Pol Lt Narongwat, a deputy inspector attached to Hua Mark police station. Found in his possession was one Glock 19 semi-automatic handgun, an iPhone model 14 pro max, a Samsung smart phone and another cell phone.

The suspect reportedly told police interrogators that he shot the victim because he felt duped by him into believing he would help settle the officer’s 2 million baht debt and assist with his promotion, but had failed to do either.

He also claimed that he had worked as a driver for the victim for about five months, in the expectation that the victim would fulfil his promises.

On Friday night, the two travelled together in the victim’s car, driven by the suspect, and got into a heated quarrel over the allegedly broken promises. The suspect is reported to have said that he used his pistol to shoot the victim in the leg and arm after he refused to transfer 20 million baht into his bank account.

The suspect said he fled the scene and returned shortly after, when he realised that he had dropped one of his cell phones at the scene. He allegedly told the man again to transfer the money and, when the victim refused, he fired two shots into his head, killing him.

The suspect claims that he was stressed and thought he had been duped by the victim.
