Police arrest 12 undocumented workers from Myanmar in Suphan Buri

Thai highway police discovered 12 undocumented migrant workers from Myanmar when they stopped a pickup truck in Suphan Buri province today (Tuesday).

A police car was patrolling Highway 3496 this morning, in Nong Phak Nak in Sam Chuk district, when it came across a fast moving pickup truck with is back suspiciously covered by a canvas.

The police gave chase and signalled the truck driver to stop. The driver accelerated and tried to flee, forcing the police to continue the pursuit.

The truck driver eventually stopped in Ban Sa sub-district and escaped with the ignition key. Police pulled back the canvas and found 14 undocumented workers lying in the back of the vehicle.

All were taken to the district police station for detention on charges of illegal entry.

The Myanmar workers told the police that they were smuggled across the open natural border into Mae Sot district of Tak province, with the help of a human trafficking gang, and then put on four pickup trucks heading for Bangkok.
