PM to attend funerals of victims of Nong Bua Lam Phu atrocity on Tuesday

Royally-sponsored cremations will be held today (Tuesday), at three temples in Na Klang district of the north-eastern province of Nong Bua Lam Phu, for the victims of last Thursday’s mass murders at the Uthai Sawan Tambon Administrative Organisation (TAO) childcare centre.

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha and two deputy prime ministers, Jurin Laksanawisit and Supattanapong Punmeechaow, will attend the ceremonies at Rat Samakkhi, Si Uthai and Wat Thep Mongkol Pichai temples respectively.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security is working on a long-term plan for the rehabilitation of people in Uthai Sawan sub-district, especially for those who lost loved ones and the injured.

Anukul Peedkaew, the permanent secretary, said that social welfare experts from ten provinces have been mobilised to offer consultation and moral support to the affected families.

He said that this rehabilitation program will be the model used to cope with any violent incidents in the future.

Anukul also said that the ministry plans to improve security, especially at the entrances and exits at more than 20,000 childcare centres, under the supervision of local administrative organisations throughout the country, noting that security is lax at most centres, even though it is compulsory.
