PM Srettha to visit China for talks with Xi

Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin will visit China next week, to hold talks with President Xi Jinping and attend the Belt and Road Forum (BRF), according to informed government sources.

Srettha will depart for Beijing on Monday afternoon for a four-day visit to participate in the third BRF and hold bilateral talks with top Chinese officials, including President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Li Qiang.

He will also meet with Zhao Leji, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, as well as a dozen major Chinese business executives.

On Tuesday, the prime minister has a tight schedule of meetings with Chinese business leaders, including Zhu Hexn, Chairman of CITIC, Sun Yoncai, Chairman of the CRRC Group, Xie Yonglin, Executive Director, President and Co-CEO of the Ping An Group and Alain Lam, Vice President, Xiaomi, CFO and Fan Jiang, CEO of the Alibaba International Digital Commerce group.

On Wednesday, Srettha will attend the BRF and, in the afternoon, he is scheduled to deliver a speech at the high-level forum titled “Green Silk Road for Harmony with Nature” at the China International Convention Centre. In the evening, he will hold a bilateral meeting with his counterpart, Li Qiang, at the Diaoyutai Guesthouse, followed by an official dinner.

On the last day of his visit, he will attend the Thailand-China Investment Forum and witness the signing of a joint declaration between the Tourism Authority of Thailand and four major Chinese online booking platforms, to promote tourism between the two countries, according to sources.

In the afternoon, he will lay a wreath at Tiananmen Square before a scheduled summit with President Xi Jinping at the Great People’s Hall.

Other business leaders he plans to meet before he leaves Beijing include Liu Jincheng, Chairman and Founder of EVE Energy, Liang Hua, Chairman of Huawei, and Jamie Khoo, COO of GDS Data.
