PM leads merit making ceremony to mark Queen Mother’s birthday

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha and his wife led cabinet ministers and their spouses, Privy Councilors, MPs, Senators, senior government officials, high-ranking military and police officers and members of the public in a merit-making ceremony at Sanam Luang this morning, on the occasion of the birthday of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother.

The Prime Minister said he had spoken to Thanpuing Jaroongfit Teechara, the Royal secretary to the Queen Mother, and was told that the Queen Mother would like new-generation Thais to learn something about the history of Thai traditional textiles so that they are aware of Thai history.

He added that the Thai media should also report on the history of Thai textiles so Thai youth can connect with Thai history.

He declined to comment on other issues, saying that he would not discuss “nonsensical” matters today.
