Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha is scheduled to officiate the opening of the road tunnel at the busy Ratchayothin intersection this morning (Monday).

The tunnel will be open to traffic at 10 am after the official opening at 10.30am , said the Office of the Secretary-General of the Prime Minister.

Construction of the road tunnel was carried out by Italian-Thai Development Corp which was also contracted to build the Northern Green Line electric train project.

The tunnel will replace the overpass bridge which was dismantled on December 7, 2016.

The Metropolitan Rapid Transit Authority said that the tunnel was completed three months ahead of schedule in next February and the opening of the tunnel will help ease heavy traffic congestion in the area which is caused by the construction of the train project.
