Paetongtarn confident Srettha will be prime minister

Paetongtarn Shinawatra is confident that the party’s prime ministerial candidate, former real estate tycoon Srettha Thavisin, will be selected as prime minister in parliament tomorrow (Tuesday).

Paetongtarn, also a Pheu Thai prime ministerial candidate, said Sunday that the party’s legal advisors have checked all the allegations made against Srettha regarding his real estate business and found that he did not break the law.

Self-made graft buster Chuwit Kamolvisit has accused Srettha, while serving as CEO of the Sansiri real estate company, of involvement in some shady, possibly illegal land deals.

Paetongtarn said that Sansiri is a listed on the stock market and is open to public scrutiny.

She apologised for disappointing supporters by not being able to form a government with the Move Forward party, as originally planned, and for having to partner with other parties.

She promised, however, that a Pheu Thai-led government will do its best to address the pressing problems affecting people.

Asked whether she is interested in a cabinet post, she said that she is more interested in working for the party.

Security is being increased around parliament, in anticipation of protests as hundreds of riot control are being deployed at and around the parliament complex. There is now an exclusion zone of 50 metres around parliament, which is off limits to unauthorized people until midnight on Thursday.

Two traffic lanes, sidewalks and the Kiak Kai government centre near parliament are reserved for protesters.
