Pheu Thai still stands with Move Forward, despite Pita’s setback

Pheu Thai party leader Chonlanan Srikaew has reiterated that the party still stick with the Move Forward led coalition and will not switch sides, even though Move Forward’s leader Pita Limjaroenrat failed to be elected prime minister by parliament yesterday (Thursday).

He said that the Pheu Thai party still recognises the MoveForward party’s legitimacy as the core party in forming a government, because it won more House seats than any other party contesting the May 14th election.

Chonlanan said that there is no empirical evidence to suggest that all the 249 senators oppose Move Forward’s policy to amend the lèse majesté law, although some senators did make their opposition clear during the debate in parliament yesterday.

He dismissed as groundless media reports that Pheu Thai may switch sides, to form an alternative government with other parties. He also said that it is unlikely that the Move Forward party will switch to the opposition.
