Pheu Thai Party to change its logo as it is prepares for major shakeup

The acting executive committee of the opposition Pheu Thai Party has approved a new logo for the party, which will be submitted to the general meeting of the party for final endorsement next month.

Acting party leader Mr. Chusak Sirinil said that the new logo has adopted the “Uthong” traditional font, to fit with changing circumstances and the changes in the party.

Party supporters have welcomed the new logo, with one Facebook user posting a message saying that a fortune teller once warned that the current logo, using a font in which the Thai letters do not have heads (sans-serif), was deemed inauspicious.

As well as the new logo, the general meeting will also elect a new executive committee and a new party leader, following their resignations last week to pave way for a major shakeup.

Informed party sources say that the mass resignations were prompted by the intervention of Khunying Potjamarn na Pompetch, the ex-wife of exiled former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, to energize the party, which is losing support to the Kao Klai party among young people.

Mr. Chusak said, however, that he had not detected any sign from Khunying Potjamarn that she would play a more active role in the party, as he dismissed the reports of her intervention in party affairs as pure speculation.
