Hundreds of people in communities along Route 309, linking Sing Buri and Ang Thong provinces, were evacuated today (Sunday), after their communities became flooded following the partial collapse of a river embankment.

Villagers said that the embankment, in Phra Ngam sub-district, which is under construction, caved in at two locations, allowing water from the swollen Chao Phraya River to surge into their communities.

They also said that their homes are now under 1.5-2 metres of water, which has forced them to take temporary refuge on Route 309, where hundreds of other flood victims have been camping for weeks.

The flood victims have been provided with electricity, water and public toilets by district officials.
