Panel rejects e-ticket system on city buses 

The inspection committee of Bangkok Mass Transit Authority has refused to accept the e-ticket system and the cash box to be installed in the city’s bus fleet claiming that the system does not work and is unstable.

BMTA acting director Mrs Panida Thongsuk said Thursday that the e-ticket system and the cash box are provided under a joint venture of Chor Thavee, Jump Up and MOL Payment companies and installed on 2,600 city buses on trial basis.

An experiment showed that the e-ticket system was unstable and did not function properly, prompting the inspection committee to reject the system and the cash box on Tuesday, she said, adding that the BMTA would consider imposing fine on the joint venture group for its failure to install the system within June as prescribed in the contract.

The procurement contract is estimated at 1.6 billion baht.

The inspection committee will wrap up its findings and reason why it rejected the E-ticket system and submit them to the BMTA director for consideration.

However Mrs Panida insisted that the city bus agency did not revoke its contract with the joint venture group although the inspection committee has refused to accept the system and the cash box which came in the same package.
