Palang Pracharath and Sarng Anakot Thai parties in merger talks

Several key members of Thailand’s Sarng Anakot Thai Party are expected to return to the Palang Pracharath Party in the latest realignment, in preparation for the next general election scheduled in May.

At the Pullman Hotel in Bangkok today (Friday), Sarng Anakot Thai Party Leader Uttama Savanayana and party secretary, Sontirat Sontijirawong, had a closed-door meeting with Palang Pracharath Party Leader and Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan and party’s chief advisor, General Wit Dhephasdin na Ayudhya

Informed Palang Pracharath Party sources said the meeting was cordial and General Prawit would like the key members of the Sarng Anakot Thai Party to join Palang Pracharath Party.

Uttama and Sontirat, who severally held the posts of finance and energy minister in the government of Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, as well as then Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovations Suvit Maesincee and Kobsak Pootrakool, then deputy secretary-general of PM’s Office quit the Palang Pracharath Party in July 2019.

The sources said that Prawit, Wit, Uttama and Sontirat also met on Thursday, to discuss working together under the same roof.

Uttama and Sontirat are expected to head Palang Pracharath Party’s economic team.
