Over 63,000 hectares of farmland in 17 Thai provinces damaged by flooding

More than 63,520 hectares of agricultural land in 17 provinces across Thailand, except in the south, have been damaged by recent flooding, according to a report from the National Water Resources Office.

In the northern province of Sukhothai alone, more than 20,960 hectares of farmland, most in the Mueang, Si Samrong and Kong Krailat districts, have been affected, according to satellite images from the Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (GITSDA).

Flooding has, however, eased since the water level in the Yom River began falling.

GITSDA said satellite information and images have been sent to relevant agencies for use in planning, monitoring, assessment and management of the water situation.

The other 16 affected provinces are Lampang, Tak, Chaiyaphum, Khon Kaen, Kalasin, Roi-et, Yasothon, Amnat Charoen, Ubon Ratchathani, Lop Buri, Saraburi, Ang Thong, Suphan Buri, Ayutthaya, Prachin Buri and Chanthaburi.
