Outspoken Chalerm named Pheu Thai’s chief of election campaign team

Maverick former MP of Bangkok Chalerm Yoobumrung  has been appointed chief of the Pheu Thai party’s election campaign team in charge of campaign throughout the country.

Known as a crowd puller for his outspokenness and tough-guy character, Chalerm said that his campaign speaking team would include, among others, former MPs Adisorn Piangkate and Suthin Klangsaeng.

He said that the campaign rally at each location would last approximately three hours and that his team would travel to upcountry in accordance with the planned campaign route.

However, he said that if there is any special request for help from his team from any candidate, the team would be ready to respond.

He said he wasn’t sure Panthongtae Shinawatra, the only son of fugitive former prime minister Thaksin, would join his team or not, but it would be good if he did.

The former police officer said that he would check with all the rules and conditions imposed by the Election Commission regarding campaign rallies to find out what can be done or cannot be done.

Earlier, the Pheu Thai party appointed Khunyhing Sudarat Keyuraphan as the party’s election strategy committee head.

For the time being, election campaigning by political parties is not possible due to legal restrictions which are expected to be lifted after Friday meeting between the EC, the National Council for Peace and Order, the government, the National Legislative Assembly, the Constitution Drafting Committee, the National Reform Steering Council and political parties.
