Thailand’s Ministry of Interior and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) will be cleaning the roads of the capitalon more regular basis, as air quality has improved considerably, with only two areas having excessive PM2.5 dust today (Friday).

Bangkok Governor Aswin Kwanmuang and Deputy Interior Minister Nipon Boonyamanee joined city officials in road cleanup around the Victory Monument on Thursday night, to clear dust from road surfaces.

All 50 districts in the city joined the cleanup campaign because,at this time of year, more PM2.5 dust accumulates due to poor air circulation.

The two areas with excessive PM2.5 dust this morning are Kanchanapisek Road in Bang Khun Thian district and Mahachai sub-district in Samut Sakhon province, where the amount of PM2.5 was measured at 64 and 56 microns respectively.

Meanwhile, Interior Minister Anupong Paochinda today instructed all provincial governors, especially those in the northern and northeastern regions, to take steps to prevent or reduce forest fires and to set up a working panel in every province to monitor forest fires and hot spots.

They are encouraged to make use of available technology, such as satellite images and online applications, in the monitoring process.
