National park officials, aided by a tractor, have been trying to reopen the Ban Krang-Panoen Thung mountain road, which has been blocked by mudslides and fallen trees.

A report, from the chief of Kaeng Krachan national park in Phetchaburi province, said that heavy rains over the past several days caused mudslides at several points between kilometer markers 28 and 29 of Bang Krang-Panoen Thung road. Several large uprooted trees blocked the road, making it passable only by motorcycles or on foot.

Park officials based at Panoen Thung, a popular tourist attraction where visitors can view a sea of clouds during cold season, have been cut off from the outside world and have been relying on food supplies sent to them by motorcyclists.

One tractor has been sent to clear huge piles of mud from the road and officials used chain saws to cut fallen trees into smaller pieces so they can be removed with ease.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department on Tuesday predicted isolated heavy rain in the northern, northeastern, eastern and western coast of the South today and overnight, with a possibility of flash flooding in mountainous areas.

Rough seas are forecast with waves in the Andaman Sea reaching 2-3 metres high and 2 metres in the Gulf of Thailand.  Small boats are advised to remain ashore while larger vessels should exercise greater caution and avoid storms.
