The Ministry of Interior has ordered the governors of all 76 provinces throughout Thailand to hold four merit-making ceremonies, to pay respects to the late Queen Mother.
The first ceremonies will be held tomorrow, to mark the seventh day of the passing of the Queen Mother, to be followed by three more on November 7, December 12 and January 31, marking the 15th day, 50th and 100th days following the Queen Mother’s passing.
Each province can organise merit-making activities as it deems as appropriate, such as cleaning public places, visiting patients in hospitals, reading books to disabled people or conducting charitable activities.
Interior Permanent Secretary Orasit Samphantharat has urged members of the public to participate in the events tomorrow, starting at 4.30pm. Civil servants, employees of state enterprises, police and military personnel are advised to wear white uniforms, while members of the public are to wear polite black clothing.
The Cabinet, meanwhile, has set up eight committees to be responsible for the various aspects of the mourning period, such as the holding of merit-making ceremonies, the funeral procession, construction of the crematorium, maintenance of Royal carriages, security, traffic control, the publication of commemorative books and the Royal cremation ceremony itself.
