Police in Aranyaprathet district of Thailand’s Sa Kaeo province have contacted relatives of a Thai woman, who reportedly fell to her death from a building in Cambodia’s border town of Poipet, a hub of transnational scam syndicates and casinos.
Police said the deceased is a native of the northeastern province of Khon Kaen and they have contacted her family about collecting her remains, currently being kept at the district hospital.
According to a non-governmental organisation, dedicated to helping distressed Thai nationals working abroad, the five-storey building, from the fourth floor of which the Thai woman fell to her death, is located about 500 metres from the Ban Klong Luek border checkpoint.
The building is owned by a Cambodian customs official and rented to a Chinese businessman, who has turned it into a guest house and an office for a major liquor distributor in Poipet.
The Thai NGO claims, however, that Cambodian people in the same neighborhood are fully aware that the building also houses an office engaging in online share trading and that some foreigners are being “forced” to work there.
Aranyaprathet police say that they have no details about how and when the victim went to Poipet and ended up working in that building.
