Saysunee Jana won her second gold medal in women’s foil B last night while Pongsakorn Paeyo and Athiwat Paeng-nuea each won their second medals in wheelchair racing at the Paris Paralympics 2024.
Thailand is now 15th in the medal rankings, with a total of 17, including six gold, five silver and six bronze.
Saysunee, known as the “Thai fencing queen,” secured her second gold in the women's foil B class on September 4, beating Xiao Long from China with a score of 15-11.
Her first was in the women’s fencing B class. She has another individual match in women’s epée B class on September 6, a category which she has won many times in previous Paralympics, and she is expected to win her third gold.
The other two silver medals were also in wheelchair racing.
Pongsakorn won another silver in the men’s 100m wheelchair racing T53 class. He previously won gold in the men’s 400m wheelchair racing T53 class.
In this category, the gold medal was won by Abdulrahman Al-Qurashi from Saudi Arabia, while another Thai athlete, Pichet Krungget, finished in 6th place.
Athiwat, although unable to secure gold in the men’s 100m wheelchair racing T54 class, won the silver medal, finishing second to Juan Pablo Cervantes from Mexico.
Another Thai athlete, Phiphatphong Sianglam, who participated in the same category, finished in 8th place.
Meanwhile, China maintains at the top of the medal table, with a total of 135 medals. The United Kingdom and the United States are in 2nd and 3rd place, with 74 and 63 medals respectively.
