Ten technologies to watch are the subjects of presentations being held today (Thursday) and tomorrow as part of the Thailand Tech Show 2019, at the Convention Hall of the Centara Grand Central World Hotel, hosted by Thailand’s National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) and the Ministry of University Education, Science, Research and Innovation.
The ten technologies were chosen by NSTDA in anticipation of the impacts they will have on human lives and businesses in the next 5-10 years. Some of these technologies may soon materialize as products or new services or become prototypes for further development of even newer innovations, according to NSTDA director Dr. Narong Sirilertvorakul.
Presentations of the ten technologies are being conducted by Dr. Narong. The public are welcome to attend the presentations.
The ten technologies include:
- 5G/6G mobile networks, which will be 20 times faster than 4G. 5G/6G will be the platform that connects technologies such as AI, Big Data, Cloud and IoT, making it possible to accommodate driverless automobile systems.
- Quantum Computing and Engineering. This technology will increase the efficiency of computers by 1,000 times or more, making it possible to decode complicated DNA of living organisms and to build models for new drugs and other precision innovations.
- Future Artificial Intelligence. This technology, according to the McKinsey Company, will, in the next 15 years, take away 400-800 million jobs currently done by human beings, although it may create other employment opportunities which require different skills.
- Mobility-as-a-Service or MaaS. This hail riding and delivery service is currently being provided by Uber in the US, DiDi in China and GrabFood and Line Man in Thailand. The sector is forecast to continue to grow fast.
- Perovskite Solar Cell. It is estimated that the solar cell market will be worth about 140 billion dollars in the next 5-6 years. This type of solar cell benefits from the ability to bend and low weight. It is also more efficient at converting sunlight into electricity than present solar cells.
- Next Generation Lithium Ion Batteries.
- This technology will help disabled people walk again and improve the quality of life of disabled or elderly people, among other applications.
- Microbial Multifunctional Fiber.
- Companion Diagnostics.
- Personalized Cancer Vaccines.
