The Social Security Office (SSO) will proceed with its plan to spend about 55 million baht on printing new calendars for next year, despite the fact that most workers and employers covered by the social security scheme have voiced their objection to the project.
The SSO conducted an opinion poll between April 1 and 30, to gauge their opinions about the office’s calendar project. The poll shows 62% of the workers and 66% of the employers want the project to be scrapped, while only 38% of both groups agree with the project.
Moreover, 81% of those who agree with the project are aged between 15 and 25.
Katenakhon Potjanaworapong, spokesperson for the SSO’s public relations office said, however, that the chairman of the sub-committee of the PR office has insisted that the project must proceed and the number of calendars to be printed will not be reduced, claiming that those who want the calendars will be upset if the project is scrapped.
The chairman also claimed that the 55 million baht budget for the calendar has already been allocated in the 2025 fiscal year budget and, therefore, it cannot be cancelled.
Katenakhon said, however, that the outcome of the opinion survey will be submitted to the social security board for consideration, as to whether the project should go ahead.
