The Anti-Corruption Organisation of Thailand (ACT) is demanding answers from the government on a number of disturbing questions related to the collapse of the State Audit Office (SAO) building.
ACT has also called on the government to speed up the investigation into the tragedy, noting that it has been three weeks since the March 28th collapse.
The organisation’s president, Mana Nimitmongkol, wrote in his open letter, published on the ACT website, that Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra’s April 18th statement on the SAO tragedy was a disappointment, because she did not touch on the possibility corruption in the project or give a timeframe for when the probe into the collapse of the building would be completed and its conclusions announced to the public.
ACT, he said, wants clear answers from to these questions:
- Was the design of the SAO building up to standard
- Who was responsible for the design?
- Which engineers and architects were responsible for supervising the construction?
- Were the materials used in the construction checked regularly?
- Did the contractors make any mistakes in the construction?
- Was the collapse of the building due to corruption?
- Who were responsible and who should be punished?
- Who should now be responsible for the overhaul the current procurement processes and related laws, to prevent corruption and to make sure that this tragedy will not be repeated?
Mana said ACT expects answers from the government and the SAO by April 28th, if they are to regain public confidence.
