Thailand’s Medical Sciences Department has set up a survey to collect information from those who have recovered from COVID-19, to see if there are any long-term effects on people’s health.
The survey, only in Thai at present, can be found on the website https://longcovidsurvey.dms.go.th/
The survey gathers information on the symptoms, and their severity, which people experience after recovering from COVID-19. The information will be used to help in the treatment of COVID-19 patients with other health complications.
Those who can participate need to have recovered from the infection for at least four weeks.
As for the most common long-term symptoms (more than 12 weeks) among recovered COVID-19 patients are fatigue and coughing, which occur in 20% of patients.
Some patients may experience some COVID-19 symptoms after 12 weeks, with headaches in severe cases where patients received late treatment, as well as damage to the lungs. COVID-19 may also increase the severity of underlying diseases, such as those of the heart, kidney and brain damage.
Prominent Thai neurologist Dr. Thirawat Hemachudha, of Chulalongkorn University, revealed back in March that many patients who recover from COVID-19 experience long-term symptoms (“long COVID”), which can be split into 4 weeks in the first phase, 4-12 weeks in the second phase and longer than 12 weeks in the third phase.
