Pol Lt Sunaree Kiewsalap, a nurse at the Police General Hospital, was visiting Tokyo as a tourist last November. While at the Asakusa train station, on the Ginza Line, an elderly man collapsed unconscious.
Sunaree instinctively rushed to assist him and administered CPR after finding no pulse. She also requested an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) from station employees.
Before the device arrived, however, she was able to restore the man’s pulse. He was then rushed to hospital for further treatment.
When news of her lifesaving act came to light, it earned the admiration of not only Thais, but also from the Japanese public.
Several Japanese media outlets reported her story, which was shared widely online.
Many comments expressed gratitude, with messages such as “thank you” and “you are a heroine.”
Now, the Thailand Nursing and Midwifery Council is honouring Sunaree for her actions.
“The council is impressed with Pol Lt Sunaree Kiewsalap for her good deed, which she performed with sincerity, volunteering to help others. This is a good example of how she used her professionalism to assist people," the council stated.
