The director of the Office of Investigation and Special Operations of the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) reported to Nonthaburi provincial police today, to acknowledge charges against him over a fatal road collision yesterday when his pickup truck struck a delivery rider in Bangrak Noi sub-district.
According to the police the suspect will be charged with drunk driving causing the death of another person, reckless driving causing the death of another person and failing to stop to help the victim.
An elder sister of the victim, identified as ‘Sornnarin’, 43, told the media that the family had received about 500,000 baht in compensation from the suspect, adding that they plan to move the victim’s body from the hospital to Thung Khru Temple in Nonthaburi for a funeral today.
Meanwhile, NACC Secretary General Surapong Intharathavorn said that a fact-finding committee will be set up to investigate the suspect, a senior official at the NACC.
He said that, at this stage, the suspect may be transferred to another post, adding that whether he will be suspended or dismissed will depend on the result of the investigation.
The director in question was found to be intoxicated when he was booked by police near the scene of the fatal collision. A breathalyser test given at the scene showed an excessive level of alcohol in his system.
