Rescuers have finally recovered the body of a construction worker, who fell into a 19-metre deep sinkhole on May 19th, which opened up underneath him as he worked at the MRT Orange Line train construction site in Larn Luang, Bangkok.
The body of “Sarawut”, a native of Si Sa Ket province, was extricated shortly after midnight last night, ending about 130 hours of relentless efforts to find and to recover the victim.
At about 7pm Saturday night, a member of the rescue team, wearing breathing apparatus, was lowered into the hole to look for Sarawut, who is believed to have died in the fall.
Due to the limited space in the hole, the rescuers had to take turns entering the void before they finally found and extracted the victim’s body.
The body was immediately examined by a Vajira hospital forensics team at the construction site, before being taken to the Institute of Forensic Medicine at the Police General Hospital for autopsy.
