The Iranian Ambassador to Thailand today condemned “in the strongest terms” the recent series of what he called unprovoked and unjustified acts of aggression launched upon it by the United States and Israel.
Nassereddin Heidari stated in a press briefing that these acts violated international law and the sovereignty of his country.
The ambassador said “On February 28, the US and Israel deliberately targeted the Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, in a cowardly and terrorist attack that strikes at the very core of international norms and the fundamental principles of state sovereignty.”
Calling the act “reckless and barbaric,” the envoy said it was not just an assault on an individual, but a direct affront to the sovereignty of Iran, the security of its people and the stability of the international order.
He also mentioned that, following the attacks, military strikes had been launched on civilian infrastructure, including schools, hospitals and humanitarian relief facilities.
He claimed that the “deliberate targeting of civilian sites, including a primary school in Minab, Hormozgan province, on the first day of the attack, resulted in the martyrdom of 165 innocent schoolgirls.”
In addition, similar attacks in cities, such as eastern Tehran and Abyek in Qazvin Province, led to the deaths of even more children, he claimed.
The envoy stated that such reckless violence “constitutes war crimes and crimes against humanity.”
On March 1, further strikes hit Red Crescent buildings and hospitals in cities like Tehran and Ahvaz, as well as residential neighborhoods.
The attacks left countless civilians dead or wounded, as missiles rained down on densely populated areas in Kurdistan Province in the following days, according to the ambassador.
He called on the UN to act urgently to halt these “violations of international humanitarian law. The US and Israeli regimes must be held accountable for their deliberate targeting of innocent civilians, and those responsible for these war crimes must be brought to justice.”
“In light of the ongoing attacks, Iran is now fully within its rights to defend itself against this unjust war of aggression. The country stands firm in protecting its sovereignty, its people, and its future,” he continued.
Iran has called upon the international community to hold those responsible for these acts of terror accountable and has demanded an immediate cessation of hostilities.
In conclusion, he said that “Iran reiterates its commitment to peace and diplomacy, but affirms its right to self-defense against this unwarranted aggression.”
