The Interior Ministry has issued a one-year ban on the issuance of firearm carry permits, effective from tomorrow, in an effort to reduce gun-related violence.
The order was co-signed by Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul on February 12.
Interior Ministry spokeswoman Traisuree Traisoranakul, said the ban was introduced because Thailand has been experiencing an increase in gun-related incidents, including the public display of firearms and their exhibition on various social media platforms.
These incidents have caused public fear and, in several cases, have resulted in injuries to and the deaths of innocent people.
