Large crowds are expected to gather along the route today, to witness the procession of the mortal remains of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, The Queen Mother, from King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital to the Grand Palace, which will begin at 4pm.
To facilitate travel for mourners, transport authorities have arranged a range of free services across the capital and nearby provinces.
The Department of Land Transport, in cooperation with the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority, will provide free shuttle bus services on several main routes to the Grand Palace, including from Bangkok’s Apiwat Central Station, Rangsit, Wongwian Yai and Muang Thong Thani.
Additional routes and schedules will be announced in due course.
The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) will add carriages to regular trains on all routes and operate special trains on at least the Bangkok–Ayutthaya–Bangkok, Bangkok–Chachoengsao–Bangkok and Bangkok–Nakhon Pathom–Bangkok services.
The SRT will also coordinate with the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) for shuttle services between Hua Lamphong Station and Sanam Luang.
Electric rail services will increase train frequency during peak hours, particularly at Sanam Chai and nearby stations.
Additional staff will be on duty to assist passengers and manage ticket sales, to ensure smooth and efficient travel.
Moreover, the Marine Department will provide free ferry services between Wang Lang Pier and Phra Chan, Tha Tien and Wat Arun piers
.
It has also coordinated with boat operators along the Saen Saep Canal and the Chao Phraya River.
Authorities have urged those planning to pay their respects in person today to plan their journeys in advance and follow official announcements regarding routes, schedules and crowd management measures.
