Former Thai Prime Minister Thanin Kraivichien passed away on Sunday at the age of 97.
Thanin graduated with a law degree from Thammasat University in 1948, before continuing his legal studies at the London School of Economics.
While in the UK, Thanin met Karen Andersen, a native of Denmark, whom he married. They had five children.
Before entering politics, Thanin worked as a Supreme Court judge.
He was appointed Thailand’s 14th prime minister two days after the political upheaval of October 6, 1976. His administration was subsequently toppled by a coup, led by General Kriangsak Chamnan, in October the following year.
From 1977, he served as a Privy Councillor to the late HM King Bhumibol Adulyadej.
