Hospitals in flooded areas of Songkhla Province have pleaded for urgent help to cope with dwindling supplies and a shortage of fuel for their power generators.
Bangkok Hospital Hat Yai, in Hat Yai District, posted a message on Facebook pleading for help to move patients in the intensive care unit (ICU) to safer places after its reserve power generator was flooded, causing a complete power shutdown.
A hospital official told Thai PBS that there were about 10 elderly and seriously ill patients who needed to be urgently transferred to other hospitals.
He said the hospital, which was forced to suspend all services, had difficulties communicating with relief units and help centres.
Another hospital in Natawee District has also been plunged into chaos after it was hit by flash floods.
Suwat Viriyapongsukit, the former director of Somdejpraboromrachineenart Natawee Hospital, told Thai PBS that more than 400 patients, visitors and medical personnel were stranded in the hospital.
He said the hospital, which had been cut off by floods, had run out of fuel for its power generators and water pumps. “But the problem is that authorities are aware of our plight, but they cannot find a way to deliver the needed fuel because of the floods,” he said.
