The Football Association of Thailand (FA Thailand) board agreed, by a majority, to sue former president Pol Gen Somyot Poompanmuang and the former executive team for alleged mismanagement, causing extensive financial damage to the association.
On March 6, the Supreme Court ordered FA Thailand to pay the Siam Sports Syndicate company 360 million baht in compensation, plus interest, after finding FA Thailand guilty of breach of copyright contract for the company to broadcast live Thai League soccer matches.
Incumbent president, Nualphan Lamsam, called the urgent board meeting today, and they agreed to sue in the Civil Court and to hire lawyers to represent FA Thailand at the trial.
The board also agreed to launch a special campaign, called “Thai People Love Thai Football”, to mobilise public funding to pay the compensation to Siam Sports Syndicate and for the development of the Thai national soccer teams.
The campaign activities include the sale of T-shirts, holding concerts and friendly soccer matches, as well as soliciting public donations.
