The National Energy Regulatory Commission (NERC) has decided to cut the electricity price for January through April, from 3.94 baht/unit to 3.88 baht/unit, in response to the government’s policy to reduce the cost of living.
NERC Secretary General Poonpat Leesombatpiboon, who is also its spokesman, said today that the commission’s decision is in line with the proposal from the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) to reduce electricity prices so the government can return 6.141 billion baht in Accrued Expenses (AE) to EGAT.
He also said that PTT Public Company has adjusted the price of natural gas supplied to EGAT, after the global price of liquefied natural gas (LNG) fell from US$12.5/million BTU to US$11.5/million BTU, making it possible for the NERC to reduce electricity prices.
This also means that the Fuel Tariff (FT) for the four-month period will be reduced, from 15.72 satang/unit to 9.72 satang/unit.
