The Cabinet agreed today to suspend the collection of electricity fees for this month from people in the northern and north-eastern regions affected by the heavy flooding, said Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra.
The relief measure, proposed by the Interior Ministry, will apply for this month. In October, the electricity charge will be reduced by 30%.
The premier was speaking after chairing the weekly cabinet meeting at Government House.
The Finance Ministry also proposed a debt moratorium for small borrowers from the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives.
She added that the Digital Economy and Society Ministry, along with other relevant authorities, has been assigned to study the possibility of using the Thang Rath application to issue alerts during emergencies, such as flooding.
The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation will also develop its Cell Broadcast Service to ensure more effective urgent alerts for the public.
