Thailand’s Chulabhorn hospital has launched a research project to study the immunity and safety of post COVID-19 vaccination in pregnant women and is seeking for 400 volunteers.
To qualify to become a volunteer, a woman must be over 18 years old, be at least 12 weeks pregnant on the day of their first inoculation with the Sinopharm vaccine, have not had a fever in the 14 days immediately prior to inoculation, has not been infected with COVID-19 and has not been inoculated with another vaccine. They must also cooperate fully in providing information about their and their baby’s condition after inoculation and after giving birth.
For the first group of 100 volunteers must have received two doses of the Sinopharm vaccine, with the first dose on October 4th. Officials will monitor their post-vaccination condition, results of the birth and the condition of their babies for a period of 90 days.
For the second group of 300, they must have received two doses of Sinopharm vaccine, with the first dose administered between October 6th and 15th. They will be subject to the same monitoring as the first group and to ultrasound examination within one month of the first and second injections, with blood tests to determine their immune response.
In May this year, the Chulabhorn Royal Academy ordered the procurement of one million doses of China’s Sinopharm vaccine, to supplement the government’s shortage of vaccines.
