Incumbent Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt remains the preferred candidate among most Bangkok voters in the gubernatorial election on June 28, according to Suan Dusit Poll.
The pollsters conducted an online and on-site opinion survey among 1,074 people in Bangkok from May 6-8 regarding the gubernatorial election.
Asked whom they would like to be Bangkok’s governor, 56.7% chose Chadchart, followed by 18.90% for Chaiwat Sathawornwichit of the People’s Party. Undecided respondents came third with 13.13%, followed by Mallika Boonmeetrakool Mahasook at 5.78%, Komsant Phanvichartkul at 4.07%, and M.L. Kornkasiwat Kasemsri at 1.30%.
Other candidates, including Suchatvee Suwansawat, Mongkolkit Suksintharanon and an unnamed Democrat Party candidate, trailed with 1.12%.
An earlier NIDA Poll also placed Chadchart as the frontrunner.
When asked what they wanted to see improved in the capital, respondents said:
- 28.82% wanted Bangkok to be free from traffic congestion, with a good mass transit system and affordable fares.
- 23.86% wanted the city to be cleaner, with unobstructed footpaths.
- 18.10% wanted Bangkok to be safer and free from crime and illegal narcotics.
- 14.75% wanted better flood protection for Bangkok.
- 14.41% wanted Bangkok to become an economic hub with a better quality of life.
Asked which parties they would like to see represented at City Hall, respondents chose:
- People’s Party (40.13%)
- Independent candidates (21.23%)
- Undecided (19.46%)
- Democrat and Pheu Thai parties (7.91%)
- Bhumjaithai Party (2.89%)
- New Alternative Party (0.47%)
