Bhutan’s Their Majesties King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Queen Jetsun Pema attended a royal merit-making rite for the late HM Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother, at the Dusit Maha Prasat Throne Hall in the Grand Palace last night.
The Bhutanese King and Queen are the first foreign monarchs to visit Thailand to pay their respects to the late Queen.
The royal merit-making ceremony was presided over by Their Majesties the King and Queen of Thailand.
Upon arrival, King Maha Vajiralongkorn and Queen Suthida greeted Their Majesties the King and Queen of Bhutan.
Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya and Than Phuying Ploypailin Jensen were also in attendance for the ceremony.
The Bhutanese King and Queen have long shared a close bond with the Thai Royal Family.
In 2016, King Jigme Khesar became the first foreign head of state to visit Thailand to pay respects to the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great.
The following year, Their Majesties attended the royal cremation ceremony, underscoring the enduring friendship and spiritual connection between the two royal families.
