Autopsy conducted on the body of a Chinese female tourist died at a waterfall in Hat Yai district of Songkhla on September 19 showed that she was dead before she was drowned, suggesting that her death was believed to be an act of foul play and not a suicide.
Hat Yai police said that there were cuts above her right eyebrow and her mouth, two eyes and below the chin were bruised.
In addition, police said that the passport of the victim, 28-year old Ms Lei Tian, which was found in a garbage bin at Tone Nga Chang waterfall was torn apart and her cellphone which was recovered from a pool in the first tier of the waterfall was without its SIM card. Her handbag was also dumped in the garbage bin.
A Chinese man who was reported to her the victim’s colleague at the same office in Malaysia has been held in police custody for interrogation. He reportedly claimed that he didn’t know the victim.
From CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts, police said that the victim came to the waterfall in a taxi while the suspect came in his own car. Both were seen together, but about two hours afterward, the suspect was seen leaving the waterfall in his car.
The victim’s body was found the next day.
