Airport Rail Link services resumed late Wednesday night after engineers successfully repaired a faulty track switch and cleared an obstruction that had disrupted operations, according to a statement by State Railway of Thailand (SRT) Governor Anan Phonimdang.
The restoration followed inspections and repairs to a track switch at the turnaround point inside the Khlong Tan maintenance depot, allowing trains to resume normal operations between Phaya Thai and Suvarnabhumi Airport stations by about 10pm.
Passengers using the Airport Rail Link in Bangkok had faced severe travel disruptions earlier on Wednesday following a technical malfunction within the system's maintenance depot.
Anan said rail system specialists from both the public and private sectors had worked throughout the day to resolve the problem, enabling the Airport Rail Link to return to full service.
The link operates daily from 5.30am to midnight. The first trains depart simultaneously from Phaya Thai and Suvarnabhumi Airport stations at 5.30am, while the last trains leave at midnight.
Six trains are in regular operation, with two additional trains deployed during peak hours to accommodate increased passenger demand.
