About 600 suspected scammers, more than half of them Thai nationals, were arrested by Laotian police in a raid on a major transnational scam and online gambling den in the capital of Vientiane last Saturday.
According to the web page of the Ministry of Public Security of Laos, the anti-scam task force and a special operations team launched Saturday’s raid on a building, which is surrounded by a high concrete wall in Hat Chai Fong of Vientiane and is suspected to be an online gambling and scam hub.
The officials rounded up 589 people at the premises, including 373 Thai nationals, 199 Laotians, 125 Vietnamese and two Cambodians. Many desk-top computers, smart phones and other communications devices were seized by the authorities.
Laotian police said that an investigation is under way to locate the ring leader of the illegal operations.
