Media-savvy politician Mongkolkit Suksintharanon introduced his candidate today, Pasapong Chaiwirinyavanich, who will run in the Bangkok gubernatorial election under the banner of the ‘Bangkok Can Fly’ group.
Speaking at the launch event, Mongkolkit, chairman of the advisers to the group, introduced Pasapong, 46, alongside the team’s deputy governor candidates under the campaign slogan: “Bangkok, a city of happiness — Clean, safe and strong.”
Among the flagship proposals announced by Mongkolkit is a plan to import 1,000 “flying” cars and motorcycles from China annually, funded jointly by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) and private investors, with each side contributing 500 million baht.
Another flagship policy, dubbed the “Drinkable Saen Saep Canal” project, aims to improve water quality along the canal’s 47.5km route using a multi-stage filtration system, including waste interception, biological treatment, ultrafiltration, reverse osmosis (RO) and UV or chlorine disinfection.
Mongkolkit said the goal is to make canal water safe for public consumption within six months.
The group also proposes that the BMA and members of the public jointly purchase crude oil refineries operated by Bangchak Corporation and Bangchak Sriracha while waiving local fuel taxes to help reduce fuel prices.
Other policies include increasing monthly support payments for war veterans by 3,000 baht, establishing community kitchens across all 50 of Bangkok’s districts and granting a 10% bonus to BMA officials and employees who meet health benchmarks, such as their BMI, waistline and LDL cholesterol standards.
One of the group’s more ambitious proposals involves sending “talented and physically fit” Bangkok residents on suborbital trips into space, reaching 90-100 kilometres above the Earth’s surface, with private investors covering 80% of the funding.
